Following a presidential executive order this past March, which  calls for the development of a US digital backed dollar, the fed announced in November a proof of concept project simulating the use of digital money by the public in conjunction with 9 additional financial institutions

 At the same time, FTX crypto currency went bankrupt amidst major money laundering accusations which also threatens the stability of private & publicly traded crypto companies. 

 Elsewhere, more than a dozen countries governments are actively engaged in establishing their own national digital currency
